It's been in the last few months that I have noticed that on certain axes, I cannot move copy as I have bean previously able to for years. I select an object, type 'm', click object, drag along axis, type 'alt' (I'm on a Mac), type distance, type enter. The object is nowhere to be found. When I try in another axis, it works. When I draw a line along the axis for the appropriate distance and use that with move copy it works, but then I have to delete a line, adding more steps to my workflow. I'd prefer to have as few steps as possible.

This used to happen months ago on my 2011 Macbook Pro, I found out I had a nonfunctioning arrow key and sold it, hoping that would help. When I got my new(ish [2015])Macbook Pro, the problem continued. I thought I'd wait for the new release of sketchup 2018, thinking maybe it was a forced obsolescence type of thing, but apparently not. This happens on all files, varies amongst axes, but seems to only occur when attempting to move copy with a specified distance. I cannot recreate the issue, it just shows up a lot.

Anyone have any ideas on what might be going on here, or better yet, a solution as to how to make it work again?

    Thanks,
    Matt

Why are you hitting Alt? If you want to invoke the copy function of the Move tool, hit Option.

Perhaps you can upload a sample SKP file that seems to be misbehaving.

Okay, here's a new model. I was having issues with it yesterday that caused me to finally reach out and bother you. I spent the last couple of hours working with no issues, but finally ran into some. Like I said, this does not seem to be specific to any model, nor is is consistent within any model. I was finally able to replicate the issue and noticed that it does seem to happen when I am trying to move copy a single line from an edge within a face. I'm not sure now that you will be able to see anything as it took me a couple of hours to recreate, whitecoat syndrome I guess...

I use alt because it is the same as the option key on my computer. 😉

Oh this is a common issue. You need to sacrifice something to appease the Six Sovereign Sorcerers of SketchUp. Usually just something small like a sandwich or USB stick, but depending on how long since your last sacrifice, you may have to acquire a used furniture item or spare tire.

Seriously though, that's a weird issue. Only thing I can think of is that you could be shift-locking to an inference by accident, in which case hit shift again to unlock.
