Old Bands You Saw In Concert!
-
I was just reminiscing with a friend about the bands we saw back in the day.
In 1965 I was 15 YO, living in Newport Beach, California. Somehow got tickets to see the Beatles about 100 miles South in San Diego Asked a girl I had a crush on to go and be my very first date. We took a bus down, my grandmother who lived down there chaperoned us to the concert, picked us up afterwards and we spent the night at her house.
I must have been wearing bell bottom pants and Beatle boots :-)all I remember was the shrill screaming!
I saw Bob Marley mon, in 67 or 68? Best concert I ever saw, within a few beats he had the whole place up on their feet and dancin' reggae
Hendrix I saw twice in Seattle, '67 or '68, don't remember a thing except for the first one, it was to be the first time strobe lights were used at a concert It must have been a trip! Jimi was my Main Man back then and I visited his grave after I got out of the Army.
Jethro Tull was great,
saw Pink Floyd on some island maybe 1 acre, near Amsterdam, in '71 or 72? Don't remember a thing except it was the first time quadraphonic sound was used, and then, I remember coming down in some wet field the next morning with a bunch of other bedraggled hippies .. seemed the sun never came.
The doors in '66 ? on the Sunset Strip as I remember, 16 YO and dressed like a 'Mod', cord pants and flowered shirts
saw the Eagles a couple times mid 70s! One of the best ever bands but you must had to have been in your 20s back then!
Led Zeppelin in Irvine, ca in '69, must have just blown me away,
Moody Blues '71 or so in Europe, both in my top 5 bands ever, the whole Summer of Love in '67 saw alot of groovy bands in Golden Gate Park right off of Haight Ashbury!
alot of righteous music being made back then! We saw some of the best early bands at all the free concerts and love-ins in the late 60s.
What bands did you see back in the day?

I was fortunate to make it to the North Sea and Montreux jazz festivals many years back. I got to see Dizzy Gillespie, Wynton Marsalis, Manhattan Transfer & Oscar Peterson among others.
As far as mainstream concerts I have seen Styx, Rush, Cheap Trick & Van Halen to name a few. I am a just few years younger than you John. Although old enough to forget some of the others I must have seen

I was lucky to attend the first concert of the last Nirvana European tour, here in Cascais, Portugal.

Miles Davis, Paco di Lucia, Al Di Meola, John Mc Laughlin...in the previous century...the golden age!

I saw Peter Byford and Saxon play a few years ago!

I've been fortunate to see Tower of Power in 1979 and again in 2009. Awesome concerts, each one!

You made some nice ones Joe! My first concert was Janis Joplin with Big Brother. My parents drove us to the Hollywood Bowl. You must have seen them in SF along with Jefferson Airplane? Yes I saw Tull a couple times, one of my all time favorite bands, and Hendrix, Joe Cocker, Steppenwolf, Doors (so awesome), Canned Heat, Blind Faith. Early Van Morrison at the Filmore West (just great!). Mahavishnu Orchestra. Much later I saw the Stones a few times, the Grateful Dead, and CSNY.
