ATI Radeon cards are well known for their less than adequate support for OpenGL which SketchUp relies on. I don't know if you can update the drivers for that card independently from the OS. Apple pushes graphics drivers with OS updates and they automatically get updated.

As far as HD displays, SketchUp 2017 has had updates to make it work better with them although they say they have more to do in that line. The big thing right now is that some extension authors have yet to update their toolbar icons to work and play well with the HD displays.

Further checking from my system profiler shows an OpenGL version 12.1.0

I don't know where you got that off your computer, ver 12.1 doesn't make sense. I think the highest is 4.1. Maybe you should check this out from Apple.

I saw that, that's where the info in my first post from the 10th came from. Then from the apple logo on the desktop screen I went to "About this mac" then "system report" button in "overview" tab. See attached, it's referring to frameworks under software. Regardless, will I be OK to upgrade to the latest version of SU Pro with what I have (ATI Radeon HD 5770)?

I'm not sure what Apple is referring to there. You can find an app in the App store called OpenGL Viewer like in my screenshot below. That being said I would think you would have no problem with SU 2017 on your Mac at least you would have tech support since SU no longer supports SU 8. I was using Sierra on my Mac and SU 2017 but had problems with my SU 2015 Pro so I installed Yosemite. Download the Trial ver. of SU 2017 and LO and see if it works you should have no problems though.

Also if you do a screenshot on your Mac and view it in Preview you can export as a jpeg instead of a PDF that way people can see what your referring to. Sketchucation won't let you post PNG as you found out.

Thanks, will remember about the jpeg and didn't even think about trying the trial version. Duh
