Artisan not maintained anymore?
-
Hy, I know that people moved to SubD for obvious reasons, but I was wondering if Artisan is still maintained. The reason is that I found it very slow under SU2017...
Is still a very useful tool especially for triangulated models imported from other software (eg. 3D Max) that need to be subdivided. I just had a such need with a model from Turbosquid (i had to use the low-poly version to redo the uv-mapping and then to subdivide it using Artisan, because SubD wouldn't work well on that model).Derei.

It's not yet a mature product ?

The fact that is so slow reacting under SU2017 when SubD is flying, makes me think is not. There must be something in its code that is either not sufficiently optimized, or the changes in SU2017 makes some parts of Artisan code to be obsolete... either ways, having to wait considerable time for a group with relatively simple geometry to close, is not what I would call a "mature product", especially when before was almost instant.

It's not a big deal to launch Previous version of SU untill upgrade!

Yes, that would be the idea eventually...but I was hoping on more support towards fixing the issue, rather than patching solutions )
The developers won't be very motivated seeing that people are happy to run two, three versions of SU simultaneously, just to have some plugins work -
Version: Artisan Organic Toolset (1.2.9); February 23, 2017
Seems there has been some recent action!
Any issues should be addressed by Whaat the author, do not lose hope!

If youre not too particular about quads (most people dont bother really) Artisan is so good for most
organic modeling. I hope developments would still pursue. I like particularly the sculpting tool , the paint brush and the select brush. some features i wish to see coming in SubD. -
Dale probably spend a lot of time recently with the new version of BoolTools...
-
Never underestimate what Dale has planned. He's always pushing boundaries. Bool Tools is a prime example of an ancient tool superseded by Solid Tools but then made even better a few weeks ago with a v2.
I'm sure he has something planned. But more likely it's paying extension dev that takes up his time and feeds his kids.

I believe there was an update recently, but I think the main refresh was the licensing system.
Why not drop Dale (a.k.a.: WHAAT) a PM and make your concerns known?
-
I just updated to the new version and all the lagging was solved.
Thank you all for the replies!
