There Has to be a Better Way
-
Hey there everyone. Looking for a little direction here. I lost the use of solid tools not too long ago as my "trial period" expired. Fortunately, I can accomplish the same effects manually, but on this last one there has to be a better way to do what I did.
I created the attached grooved shaft (see "GS.JPG")
by merging a solid helix and a solid cylinder (see "Helix plus Cylinder.JPG"),
intersecting the lines, and then carefully deleating, patching and repairing for hours. Even after all that work, solid-checker found and fixed about 500 errors and then Slic3r found and fix another 86 errors, finally giving me a 3d print.
How would you all do this without the use of solid tools and without hours of brute force deleting and repairing? p.s., I need a rounded grove for a ball bearing, so a sharped angled grove, like a bolt or screw won't work.
Thanks so much!

Best solution for make boolean without Su Pro Version
is to use external program then import the result!
You can try the new free Rocket 3F
And use import obj by TIGhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F4EZ2LvdrIE
Else maybe Helix along curve by 3D AlbertSoft can help you

How large is your model? I would use Intersect Faces on a large copy of the component.

Thank for both replies! The Helix Around a Curve greatly expedited my work, but it was the "do it much bigger and scale" suggestion that just made it work. 100s and 100s of clicks became about 5.
Thanks so much!
