How to shape eagle pod

I'm hoping someone could advise me, relative newbie to sketchup.
I'm beyond frustrated. I have the basic shape down but cannot for the life of me, figure out how to create the cutout wedge.I'm attempting to make the eagle transporter command module.I've watched bezier videos, airplane wing videos, joint push/pull, tools on surface videos.
Maybe I'm doing it wrong?

If you make the side correctly you can use the Scale tool to reshape it to match the top

How would I cut/make/model, the black window wedges? -
Make a part to cut into the shape and use intersect with model to remove it.
