How to transfer Sketchup settings from regular user to admin
-
I have a problem. I installed SU 2017 as regular user, and spent some time setting it in my way. But, Thea render studio can not be executed from regular user Sketchup. It needs to be administrator. So I made SU start as administrator, but now all settings are default again. Is there an easy way to transfer the settings from user account to admin account? It could also be useful to have a back up of them for easy moving between different computers, or for moving to new version.
Thanks

why not turn your account into an admin account? would this not be easier?

An ordinary user should be able to run a program like SketchUp - admin-powers are not needed in day-to-day use.
BUT the program must have been installed properly in the first place.
If you double-click the installer's exe file icon [or chose "Run" from the right-click context-menu], then it will NOT have been installed properly.
You must select the installer's exe file icon, right-click > context-menu > "Run as administrator..."
This will set it up properly.
If it's already installed you should get a prompt to "Repair" it - agree to that.
That should work without the need to actually uninstall and reinstall it.
You should not then lose settings etc...Simply running an installer - even if you have admin-powers [à la 'admin-account] - will NOT provide a reliable installation unless you do things properly as outlined above.
Another fix sometimes suggested is to change the SketchUp.exe file's Properties > Compatibility, to 'Always run as administrator'.
This can resolve some issues, BUT it has the unexpected side-affect that drag-and-drop into the SketchUp window [e.g. images] no longer works - because Windows prevents a program operating at a lower level [in this case Windows Explorer] from affecting a program running at an elevated level [in this case SketchUp].
This compatibility fix is NOT recommended.
If the SketchUp.exe is properly installed by running its installer exe as an administrator, then related issues are sidestepped and it can then run at the normal level during daily use... and of course then drag-and-drop will operate properly. You should probably also install Thea etc by running its installer as an administrator...

Thank you very much for taking time to help me.

You mean why I haven't done it from the beginning? I don't know. Doing it now doesn't solve my problem.

It worked with Thea studio, but settings were all default. Thanks for making my drag and drop functional again...after so much time I haven't used it
I tried to install Sketchup as administrator with repair option, I also installed Thea and Thea4SU plugin as administrator. Drag and drop is working, but Thea studio stiil doesn't want to start from Sketchup...?? -
I solve the mystery!
Thea studio itself was set to run in compatibility mode. So, when I changed that to normal, it works from SU.Thank you both for your helping me clean my mess.
