Triple Click
-
Not sure what's going on, but all of sudden, the triple click action to select all, is not responding. A double-click selects a face and edges, but triple-click no longer selects all connected lines and faces.
I've restarted SU several times, but that did not seem to help. Any thoughts?
Running SU v.8.016846
Thanks. Ben

Update,
I started a new skp file and triple-clicking function works.
Can an existing file get corrupted or cause the malfunction? The file size is only about 4mb.
Thanks.

Ben, that's odd behavior. Could you share the SKP file? If it's a corruption, I might be able to see the same behavior.

Seems possible there could be something involving Groups or Components going on - but we'd need to see the file to check it out.

Only 4 mb? I also experienced this some time ago, i think it could have been in v8, but only with bigger models. I think i never had this problem again in v2014 or 2015.

I've imported models from the warehouse where vertices aren't welded. In these case edges don't merge on import. Edges are geometrically coincident but they are different and don't share faces. A double click selects a triangle, but a triple click doesn't get over to the next face as they aren't connected.
Sometimes that is able to be fixed by copying the geometry into itself wich will force sketchup to merge the vertices. This will take a lot of time on complex geometry but after that the model will work faster as it will have lost all double edges.

From my experience this is always related to the number of lines/faces in a model. I do HIGHLY detailed drawings and a recent one has over 10 million lines. I know I can reduce this by simplifying parts. But, basically somewhere around 3.5–4 million lines triple click becomes randomly quirky. Around 5–6 million lines it becomes non functional and will only select a single plane. For these instances I change my routine and create a plane, group it, double click, and then extrude to make a solid. All other functions work fine, although slower, even with HUGE models. The limit has moved steadily upward and I believe it was as low as 200k lines around SketchUp 4.

I just did a quick test in 2017 and the triple-click limit I mentioned above appears to be gone! and…it's FAST!
Cheers,

Ralph, that's most likely due to the new graphics pipeline.

Dave,
That's what I figured was happening. So far, I am IMMENSELY happy with 2017. Whether real or not, everything feels a lot more "zippy"!Ralph
