    Hi,
I am new to using dynamic components, so there may be something obvious I am doing wrong,...?

I am trying to produce a schedule of areas using dynamic components with a custom attribute area =FACEAREA("materialname")/2. However the results for the areas seem incorrect ( way out!). I am checking against the entity info results and with manual dimensions on the simpler rectangular areas.

Does anybody have any ideas what I may be doing wrong? My drawing is set with millimetres as the units. Could it be a unit conversion issue? Although I have tried multiplying by 25.4 and that isn't giving me a correct answer either.

Any ideas for things to check would be much appreciated.

    Thanks.

As far as I know DCs can be set up in either inches [Sketchup's default] or cm.
I expect the area returned is in square inches ?
If so, to turn that into sq mm you'll need to multiply it by 25.4*25.4 [it's 'square' no 'linear'...
Or, if the DC is returning the area in sq cm, then try using *100 to change the sq cm into sq mm...

        Thank you TIG!

It was my maths that was failing me. I failed to square. Though, I don't see why if Sketchup can give areas in the drawing set units (metric) in text and in entity info, it can't do it with facearea...?

        Thanks again.

DCs have no awareness of the Model Units, so you have to force it into using what units you want.
DCs always default to inches unless told otherwise...
