Send to layer
-
I've spent a little time looking at the various plugins / extensions and can't quite seem to find what I'm looking for, or maybe I'm staring into my eyelids (could quite possibly be).
I'm looking for a plugin / extension that will, in one action (right click context menu activation), take the selection and:
- move all geometry to Layer0 (it should be, but just on the off chance...)
- reassign all groups to the layer of my choosing (preferably select from a drop down list from layers already in the model, or have me enter a layer name)
This should work on components as well.
The reason is that you find something on the Warehouse and often those need a little work before you can use it (if you keep things organised in your model), I'm hoping this could help smooth things over.

My Layer Watcher ?

Assigns Layer0 to all selected geometry [faces and edges].
It can also optionally assign Layer0 to all geometry inside selected groups and/or component_instances.It has additional tools to warn if you try to change the active layer away from Layer0, force newly made lines/faces onto Layer0, and also to Explode selected groups/component_instances' geometry onto Layer0 [the SketchUp default is to to assign it the layer of the exploded container]...
To change the layer that is assigned to any selected object[s] - typically groups or component_instances - you can simply use the Layer list in the layer toolbar or Entity Info to assign an existing layer.
On MACs you can create a new layer on the fly by entering its name, but on a PC you need to use the Layer Browser to do that before using either of the above methods to assign that new layer to selected objects... -
Thanks TIG, I'll take a look.
To be sure, I don't want to explode/ungroup the geometry, just make sure it goes to layer0 and that all groups (from the selection) end up on the layer I intend / specify?
