TIG, I didn't have any photos showing the cabinet without the drawer so I don't have all the details but I'm thinking luck has a lot to do with it. There are guides on the sides to prevent the drawer from seating in crooked. They just don't show in the drawing. I can imagine a runner under the center of the drawer as a guide but I don't know if it's there. The drawer is basically trapped between the top and the panel underneath.
I think that drawer would be more work to make than it is worth.

I would have use a single diagonal guide.
Perhaps a 'dovetail' rail with a matching 'track' inset into the drawer's base ?Anyway, it was an 'aside'...
