Page Setup - Paper Size Memory
-
Why does Layout not remember the "Page Size" in "Page Setup"? Does anyone have a solution for this?
It seems crazy that you set a sheet size such as ARCH D in "Document Setup" and then every time you open the file and print a set of construction documents you have to change the Page Size because it defaults to the Adobe PDF Printer standard sheet size which is "Letter".
Suggestions?

Does the printer handle Arch D sized paper? If you are exporting a PDF at Arch D size and you have Arch D paper set as the default paper size in your printer, then it should print at that size. If you have Arch D paper in your printer but the printer's default paper size is Letter, it'll print at that size. This isn't a problem with LayOut.

Yes we could set the default page size to ARCH D in the Acrobat PDF print driver but we also print letter size documents all day long so switching the default setting in the print driver every time isn't ideal.

Maybe you need to use two different printers; one for the Letter-sized paper and another for the Arch-D.

Windows only allows one default printer so we would have to switch printers every time. I guess this needs to be addressed by Trimble in the next version as this is such a pain in the ass.

This is not a problem for Trimble to solve. You should, instead, be talking to the manufacturer of the printer and its drivers.

If you are printing to .pdf with a print driver/Acrobat, why not just use Layout's export to .pdf?
Exporting to .pdf from Layout maintains sheet size.

I have a similar issue - Layout does not remember the Page Setup dialogue boxes at all. I have A3 landscape set as the default in Preferences, which works fine, but if I then open Page Setup, select my A3 printer and A3 paper, save and close the file, when I reopen it those settings have reverted back to the default. This can’t be the correct behaviour surely?
Update - I see that it uses the default printer settings from System Prefs - I have an A4 laser as the default. If I change that to my A3 laser, it shows the correct settings in Page Setup. That doesn’t excuse it as bad behaviour though, in my view.
