I'm hoping this is something I'm simply doing wrong & nothing too major in the way I'm drawing things.

The scenario is I've drawn 2 benches, both of which are dynamic. Bench 1 being static, bench 2 is near identical but mobile, ie on castors.

When I draw them, I draw all the bits making the benches up then add the attributes to make them dynamic. I then save the model.

Now I want a drawing which contains both benches 1 & 2 so I open up "bench 1" & then import "bench 2" into that model.
So I now have two benches side by side. I click on the original bench & a dialog box opens up giving me the options I expect to see. However if I click on the imported bench it says "No options available"

Maybe you could just upload the components here since your links didn't work. Those links you posted don't make it easy for us to get at the components anyway.

Are you bringing the component in via the Components window or using File>Import. If the latter, try the former?

I managed to search out your components.

The issue is a simple case of inappropriate nesting of components. You've added an unneeded component wrapper to your mobile bench.

Get rid of that unneeded wrapper and you should be in good shape.

Evidently you still have some work to do on the sub-components.

          Thanks Dave R.

I'm still in the really early stages of learning SU so dont really know what to do with the info you have just provided. Is there a way I can find the "extra wrapper" I need to remove or can you offer some guidance of what I should be doing now to correct the model.

With regards to the protruding frame, strangely this only happens when its inserted into a drawing. Could it be because there will be identically named sub components in each model & if I change the height of one of the benches they conflict with each other .

Just right click on the component and choose Explode from the Context menu to get rid of the extra wrapper.

As for the legs, it could be due to what you describe. I might have time to look into it further, later. Not able to at the moment.

Don't take this the wrong way but before you get too much farther trying to make components dynamic, you really ought to spend some time learning the fundamentals. You're just making your learning curve steeper and more difficult by jumping ahead without a good foundation.

Thanks Dave. Nah I fully appreciate that's I'm at the bottom of the food chain so nothing offends me, just very grateful for the advice. If you do manage to have a look at the leg issue & offer guidance that would be most appreciated

Hi Blayne. You might draw some more specific interest to your posts by posting in (for example) the Dynamic Component forum when you are asking about dynamic components and giving an idea of the issue in the title.

Argh so I now know what I've done wrong.. When I've typed in my formulas I've typed I've referenced other components in the bench which are common to both static & mobile benches. I'm now referencing everything back to the overall size of the parent component which I'm hoping will fix my issues...Tis a learning curve indeed. Thanks for the help.
