        Thanks Peter, yes all gone along with the shipbuilding, mines and factories. The brickwork was typical of a lot of buildings and boiled down to cost, expensive materials on the facade and cheaper bricks to the "rear". TIG once pointed out the material difference on the roofs of buildings in an old render of mine (Durham), bottom three course of stone and clay tiles above.

          Hello Peter, I'm not sure about "downtown", here it seems to me that almost every building except Churches and new builds (modern residential and commercial) are constructed this way, others more knowledgeable may know otherwise. Fur coat and no knickers! maybe.
