Help with my SubD performing weird subdivision
-
Hi I'm using the sub D and I'm wanting to make a chair seat and its modelled in quads but when I sub divide a lot of the outer edges get like an anscilary subdivision which makes it look like a hot folded mess heres my problem model please help seeing how I'm a newbie who makes edges to make faces ... But the Edges Are making me make faces... This totally is changing our romantic relationship to brooding Dictatorship
whoops gave model prior to quadrangulation Here is the actuall quad model ... outcome still the same.

this is not sub-d performing weird subdivision.. that's you performing weird topology.
i attched a fixed version, please compare your original mesh with my fixed one..
you should try as much as possible to build everything using quads.
btw if you inspect your mesh, you can see there is any sort of triangulation, n-gons, open ends, overlaps, very small faces, holes and all kind of weirdness..make sure to check the documentation and tutorials

Hmmm thanks a lot. Yeah I just started Modeling and picked up sketchup about 2 months ago so I still have a lot of learning to do... Sketchup was the closet program that draws like the Very old Half life Hammer map editor I used to love when I was in pre high school 16 years ago. I just need to work on the modeling basics. if only I kept modeling since middle school lol but yeah if you can point me out to some clear cut modeling tuts that would be good ive gone through about at least 27 hrs of tuts but most of them just focused on how to work various plugins, I would be gratefull, Oh and Sketchup and I are Talking things over about how to deal with our Edgren.. lol

do you refer to sub-division tutorials? or to essential sketchup tutorials?
btw did you checked all of the other topics in this forum section? i suspect you didn't or maybe you should pay more attention, because probably you could have avoided the most of the errors in your mesh.also make sure check sub-d documentation on the website (good and growing)
and maybe take a look to a few of the example models shared here on the sub-d forumfor general sketchup tutorial i don't know.. i learned it some times ago and i'm not sure wich one is the best up-to-date, but probably the official sketchup channel is a good place to start.
also try to search sketchucation for "the doh tread"
that's essential.
