Why does Sketchup Crash when I copy...?

Hi you all, I sometimes have this problem:
when I copy something from a sketchup file to another sketchup file, sketchup crashes. I somehow would be able to fix the problem by deleting something, or copy a new copy...but not sure what exactly I did that I was able to fix the crash.does anyone know what really causes this kind of crashes?

I tend to use ⌘+C to copy and V+C to 'paste in place' into the second model and don't recall ever having a crash doing it...
if the poly count is massive it can take some time, but eventually resolves...
items made from circles, arcs or curves also seem to take longer, and I often 'group' those first...
i.e. ⌘+C >> V+C to 'paste in place' >> G >> ⌘+X >> V+C to 'paste in place' into the second model...
If I did have an issue, I would suspect a plugin that uses observers to watch Materials or Layers...

also, when i tried to copy to the second model, NOT copy in place, the arrow icon turn to paint bucket icon. I DIDn't select paint bucket icon, and why the paint bucket icon show up??!! did anyone encounter this problem?
