Several years ago the PushPullBar forum was alive and kicking. It was hacked if I'm not mistaken. Some people here on SketchUcation were members on PPB too. I wonder, where did the majority of it's users go to for discussions about architecture and related stuff??

It's a pity because numerous things have been modelised! 😒
Majority of members are here! πŸ˜„

And one of them is now a star about architectural visualisation! 😎

Yes sadly Kaas, hacked and Kevin (Swank-e) couldn't half be stuffed relaunching again for the same reason, and half as had too many issues from the forum host application.

There is a "PushPullBar Refugees" facebook page, stacks of the old regulars but discussion on posts go pretty much no where! 😞

I tend to think ArchDaily has filled a bit of the gap, if not captured those just wanting a fill of images and ideas. But other than that, I think such critical discussion has no home!

That's not a bad idea Rich!!

I'm not so sure how it would go though. The PushPullBar was a break away from the old @last forums to foster proper critique and of more progressive architecture. Such design crit wasn't really welcomed through the @last forums and was often slapped down. One has to have a pretty thick skin or a true want to improve their design or their skill as a designer.

I do find myself here having to be rather polite and reserved in critique.

I guess a sticky stating that the etiquette of the sub forum is that there "IS NONE" might help get around the need to tip toe!

PushPull was always a good read, I was always out of my depth to comment but did love rendering and modeling stuff from the masters.

Me thinks SUC should diversify to more softwares like Blender, C4D, etc and I'd love a dedicated architecture section for friendly banter and honest professional criticism and advice.

I'd love that too. Really it sucks reading through archdaily and dezeen and have no feedback unless some twisted comments and no discussion on projects.

                          Posting a full project, explaining what's behind it, receive criticism and discuss it;

Or posting a wip, discuss on everything design related and how you achieved it, rather than on how you performed some pushpull acrobatics, would be really nice.

I'd post some of my full projects right now.

                          There's no space for that.

However, the problem I see with Sketchucation, is that it's a software and software workflow related debate. It's good for sketchup, it's not great for design, though discussing your tool, learning to master it and improving on it, tends to free the mind for ideas when you are designing.

I believe with sketchucation, more focus would still be at the tools, rather than at design thinking.

That was similar on the PPB - there was a general acceptance it very much evolved around SU as an integral part for the efficient exploration of design. Well obviously hence the PushPull bit! Duh!

I'm not sure that the thread switching through diversions is that bad, like you and I workflow is an integral part of our processes - both on the tools, and likely on the thinking.

I know it's not bad and I also like that debate. It's just that when it becomes a secondary thing, I like it better...

All of the above and more...

... I would love a 'Design' section and even a 'Technical' section for real world projects.
I know there are lots of forums out there for this stuff, (in my case, mainly woodworking), but even the simplest posts ramble on for 4 or 5 pages, yada, yada.

I assume there are forums for Solos suggestions too, he might have similar reasons for not wanting to get involved in numerous 'others'

But I have been a member here for 8yrs (on friday) plus a few years on the old forum and I know you guys. And there are many very smart people here. And despite this being the 'friendliest' forum, there is remarkably little BS.

Su is a integral part of my working life from concept to production. It would be fab to have a sort of 'one stop shopping' where any questions and answers could be put.

For example, I am currently concept sketching an extreme cantilevered table. The top will have to be a torsion box, and I will wing it as usual as to the structural elements, but wouldn't it be great if I could run it past one of the engineering whizzes here?

This sort of thing already happens on individual threads now of course. I have several examples that I have been involved in but with the current setup you would never find them.

Pushpullbar was inclusive in that way, of course architecturally centric.

BTW: I reckon that it was targeted for a perceived bias that it was elitist. By assholes who just wanted the models.

Ps: I would join the premium club for all this.πŸ˜„

Enjoy design discussions but there's hurdles to getting WIP or finished project discussions. Privacy, people's time constraints etc., and generally it seems architectural forums invite flame wars and attract nuts with an agenda (I know we're all a little nuts).
