Hello all,
New to the forums here. I have a few questions I was hoping that the people here can provide some feedback.

I have been using SU Podium to render my models. It only uses CPU rendering and looking to get a rendering plugin that uses CPU and GPU. What does people rate Vray at??? 0-10 and maybe why you give the rating you did.

The models that I make are floor plans of apartments that are open on the top with no ceiling. I need to have the sunlight come through openings like windows and door but not through the open top of the model where the ceiling would be. Is there a way to do this easy. Like with a material over the top of the model that is transparent but does not allow the light to pass through???

VRay gets a 8.5 in my opinion and the reason it doesn't get a 10 are some bugs / missing features.
Based on what you are saying you need to do, I would recommend Thea. The new feature that recognizes SketchUp section planes will be killer for what you are doing and the Presto engine uses CPU and GPU at the SAME TIME. No other engine does this from what I understand.

I'd sign under everything Valerostudio said but as I never used Vray I sign under the quote.
Vray might be considered as the industry standard, but Thea is Thea...

Keep in mind you are asking people's Subjective views on Vray. For example, I used to use Podium and loved it, it was quick, it was simple, very easy to learn. Vray on the other hand, is very powerful (as noted not as powerful as it could be with missing features and all) but also a lot more complicated to get started. When I first tried Vray I hated it because my renderings with it were worse than what I could achieve in the same amount of time with Podium. Now that I have a better grasp of Vray I prefer it over Podium.
Oh and as far as I know, Vray for SU still only uses CPU except in cases of RT Rendering which is still buggy (correct me if I'm wrong on this).
And yes, you can use double sided material (transparent on the top, opaque on the bottom) and use that as a Faux ceiling for your units.
