Material Isolator Not Working
-
I have a material in a model that I do not know what it belongs to (yes, I have some components/models from the 3D warehouse). In order to try to find out where it is used, I installed the Material Isolator plugin. It has been running for over an hour and still has not identified where the material is being used.
I load the model, bring up the materials tool, click on In Model, then click on the material I am trying to find. I then click on the Tools > Material Isolator context menu (it does not show up with an icon like it says) and then click CTRL-ALT which brings up a dialog box that asks if I want to isolate the active material. I click yes and it never finds the material (I have waited over an hour).
Am I doing something wrong?

Have you checked to see if Purge Unused is available in the Details menu? Are there components that are unused? Maybe the material is on a component that you deleted from the model space but not from the In Model library.
What happens if you delete the material? Or edit it to be some very garish color? Can you see it in the model then? (you can always undo the delete or the edit) If it doesn't show up at first, maybe turn on hidden geometry, make sure all layers are turned on and set the face style to X-ray. Also zoom extents so you know you're seeing the entire model. Then change the color to magenta or something.

@DaveR - all good questions which I have to answer no. However, I have tried running the plugin to find a material that I knew about with the same results.
Oh- yes, I have run the purge on the model before.
A couple of times I have clicked on the X to close the material browser and have gotten the response that "SketchUp Application is not responding". A couple of times I closed links to close the app and a couple of times I have clicked on the link to let the application run.
Really need a way to find where this darn rogue material is used. I know it has to be associated with something I downloaded from the 3D warehouse because I have never heard of the material before. I guess another approach would be to build a new model with one piece of he 3dW stuff at a time and see which one has the material. But that would be too easy.
I also have recently downloaded the Goldilocks plugin which gives very good information about he content of a model. I would then like to use the output from that plugin to "refine" my models in some cases.
In the past few days I have started having some performance problems which we have been discussing in another thread. I guess the bottom line is that I am looking for tools that will help identify problem areas and help paint a road for the "refining".

try this one...
works with Goldilocks if you wish...

Well, if you are patient enough, it finally worked. I think it is just the size of the model that made it run so long.
I found the offending part and am in the process of fixing it..........
