Due to computer & financial issues I have been unable to access my old computer's hard drive where all my SketchUp Pro 8 software was stored. Recently I was able to copy the whole of this old drive onto my new laptop's hard drive and now want to use Pro 8 and especially the Layout program that is part of its suite of software. I have contacted Google SketchUp about accessing my license number but they say they no longer support this version and I should contact this forum.

Does anyone know where I go from here?

I would think that SU8Pro would not be Win 8 compatible... Have you tried running it in a compatibility mode?

Thanks TIG. I should have added much more detail which I will attempt now.

When double clicking the ShetchUp.exe application file I continually get this message:

The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail.

I am using Windows 8.1 as my OS and haven't, as yet, located the Application Event Log which I thought would be part of the Task Manager.

I get the same message with SketchUp Pro 7 but SketchUp Pro 6 launches but doesn't allow me to access Layout. Something to do with the operating system, I think.

I am anxious about using the comand-line system, even if I knew where it was.

I'll keep trying but if someone has a bright idea [I'm completely out of them] I'd be very grateful.

            Bernard

Have you freshly installed v8 [pro] 'from scratch' ?
Did you install it as 'admin' ?
Have you set the v8 SketchUp.exe's Properties > Compatibility to 'always run as administrator' ?
              There are many unanswered questions...

did you have installed the latest SUP v8 M5 version?
did you have the Microsoft .NET Framework v2.0 required by SU v8 installed?

Systems Requirements of SU v8 did not covered Win 8+.
