Sketchup locked by dllhost and is read only
-
I've been getting the annoying message that certain individual Sketchup files are locked and are read only since SU2015 was released. It is intermittent and sometimes the files open OK, other times they're locked. My work around is to use the free resource Lockhunter -http://lockhunter.com/, to unlock the file, with the offending culprit always being the Windows utility, dllhost.exe. Does anyone else have this issue, (I'm running Windows 8.1 but have read the same issue occurs in Windows 7) ?
I also found another sufferer and more info on the topic in the SU Community forum - http://forums.sketchup.com/t/sketchup-fails-to-terminate-all-child-processes-on-exit/9657.

Trimble are aware of it.
I too occasionally get this !
They are looking at a fix.It seems to be related to the thumbnail generation for the SKP files' icons.
This was 'fixed' in v2015 - but not perfectly, as we have seen...
It's as if the dll which sets the thumbnail is too slow to close and SketchUp thinks the file is in use by another process.
If you have the Windows Explorer view set to be 'by Details', AND have Preview Pane and perhaps the Details Pane set OFF [in WinEx > 'Organize' > Layout], then it is unlikely to happen.
Also try Folder Options > View > Launch folder windows in a separate process ON, and Show preview handles in preview pane OFF...
Apply those setting to 'all folders' in WinEx > Tools > Folder Options...If you open the SKP from within SketchUp itself - rather than by double-clicking a SKP's icon in WinEx then this issue could also perhaps be avoided.
If it does happen you should be able to backtrack and on a second attempt the same SKP should then open OK - the thumbnail should have been created by then...BUT it is very annoying...

Thanks Tig, I'll try some of those tips. I always open a SU file through SU by the way UNLESS it says it's locked. If so, I then navigate to the file via Explorer, unlock it and start it from there. I do nearly always have Windows set to detail or large icon view, so perhaps I'll try different settings like you say.
