Can we use sketchup 7.1 free version for commercial purpose

...up to SU8 for commercial work.
everything with 'Make' in name is non-commercial only.

I thought 2013 was Google's release? Was it Trimble's?

with trimble came the year names instead of 6,7,8..
trimble bought sketchup in summer 2012.

A question : Is this the place where you can officially download the free version of SU 8 ?
It says that links would be available until May 20th, 2015. -
SU 8 Pro version only, there is no official download of SU 8 Free.
-
Presumably those older versions of Pro still require a paid license to get them working?
-
Traditionally Trimble only sells licenses for the current version.

Interesting. Great way to get started by using an older version first. Will have to check that out.

I don't understand your comment. Why not just get started with the current version instead?

1 months trial isn't a lot to test out whether the software is right for you or not. If I don't have to pay for a license for an earlier version, I can use one of those for free at my leisure until such a point I want the latest version and commit to paying for it.

I think you misunderstood. In order to use one of those older pro versions for more than their 8 hour trial period (the 30 day trial period is new with SU2015) you would need to already have a license and you'd need to have purchased it while the version was the current version.

I did completely misunderstand then!

Since there is no place you can download the free SU, I have a question :
So lets say a person decided to start with SU because its free for commercial work and invested years working with it.What happens if he loses the installation file ? -
The only legitimate source for SketchUp no matter what version and the link you referenced earlier shows the only versions they are making available. If you have the original file downloaded and you are worried about needing to reinstall it, you ought to save a copy of the file somewhere safe.
