Sketchup has ground to a halt when importing "as image" or "as texture."
    Any ideas would be appreciated.

With the absence of info related to resolution or file type I can only hazard a guess.

Are there any dialogs open? Like the Material Browser?

Is it an image, like a tiff, with layered attributes?

Is your max texture setting on or off?

I know that with an older version of Indigo Renderer there used be an issue where it observed for changes in the materials browser that could cause issues.

        Thanks!

I have large textures set although either way it lags for approx. 30 sec or more

I am trying to map an image to a face (as always). It is a straight jpg. Doesn't seem to matter how big or small....no dialogs open.

        memory issues maybe?

If SU is skewing uv across lots of faces then it can crawl. Especially if your using ThruPaint to map.

I only use lo res images in SU as placeholders and swap them out in my render app. That way uvs are respected and you can stay within SU thresholds.

If your issue is a import problem did you try alternate methods.

Did you try drag and drop from explorer into SU?

I have tested a new file with only a small box.
            file/import/use as a texture....lag........same
I use place holders as well but normally only for large ground images.
I have a pretty solid box (so far) good GPU good CPU...so I'm stumped

I use a small SSD but it has less on it than normal..it has always been fine.
            ???

This just started to happen today.

I just loaded up SU15 Make Pro Trial....which I have been close to pulling the trigger on just a little concerned about the plugins and other bits and pieces of software I use not liking 15. OK I'm a bit suspicious to see my image import problem disappear as soon as I fired up "make".

SU15 works perfect πŸ˜† ....not sure whether to laugh or cry...I'm probably about to get a sh*t kicking but I have my fingers crossed.

Being forced to upgrade, although necessary, seems I was dragged ahead with handcuffs and a blindfold....lol...thanks Trimble. I'll get up and dust off.

It might be a plugin or a wrong setting that's troubling you.

I am ok now thanks Elisei. I have 15pro running...my rendering engines are taking the export ok. All my SU8 files are opening intact. I am able to map textures again. My save times are back to normal. I have moved all my plugins and they are working fine.
Just not the most graceful way to get to SU15.

There is definitely Something going on here. I have exactly the same issue, as do others, which began on the same date.
No changes to my system, no plug-ins, nothing. Just a sudden lag with image import. SU15 is running fine, so it's no biggie, but this is not an isolated issue. Weird.....

was there a Windows auto update of any kind in that timeframe?

It's possible. There have been a few windows 8.1 updates recently.

I have updates often but I rolled them back and it didn't make a difference. I still have the copy running and intact and it still will not import properly. I am convinced it is some ones ruby code. The only code I have added was the Sketchucation plugin front-end. It did seem to take a lot of time to fire up Sketchup. I suspected it was calling out on start-up shaking hands with something somewhere else.

The only other change I made was to install free GE. I have removed it as well but that didn't change anything either.

I know this hardly helps resolve the issue, but I got into the office this morning, and my image import issue has fixed itself. Back to full-speed. Total mystery. Oh well....
