SU doesn't recognise plugin

Hi everyone, newbie here, total beginner, green as, starting at zero.
I'm trying to get a 'centroid find centre' plugin to work in SU. Downloaded it to desktop, but SU won't recognise it.
Ive gone to preferences, and have the extension window, but then no "get extension" button.
Mac OS 10.6.8, Sketchup 7, (Free.)
Can you use downloaded plugins for free SU?
Would appreciate any help with this, thanks.

The install extensions button in the preferences was introduced with SketchUp 8M2, so in SU7, you have to copy the files manually in the plugin directory...
