"Users can contct me by email" lets othrs c my e-mail where?
-
The choice is yours...
However, I would have it set up something like this:
- Users can contact me by email == NO [otherwise saying YES means all members who opt to email you potentially get to know your email address]
- Admins can email me == YES [in case an SCF Admin ever needs to get in touch outside of the forums]
- Allow Private Messages == YES [then all others can communicate privately with you within the forum by 'PM', when set NO SCF Admin/Mods can always PM you anyway]
- Hide online status == NO
- Notify me of new PM == NO [or YES if you want incessant emails auto-generated from SCF, just to tell you whenever a new PM has arrived ?]
- Popup on new PM == NO [or YES if you want incessant popups just to tell you that a new PM has arrived, while you on the forum - I certainly would not use both of the last two together... You can always opt for one of these if you are expecting important PMs and are keen to know as soon as they arrive ! ]

Adding the email field adds the email icon under your avatar where users can click to contact you.

I have mine set to allow users to contact me through email... Where do you see my email address at? Are you sure it's not just allowing the board to contact you about a private message?
-
Thanks for the replies.
I looked under Krisidious' avatar (he said he had "Users can contact via e-mail" on) and only saw the Private Message and globe/URL icons. Also looked through a number of forum posts to see if there was an icon that stood out as "e-mail address" but didn't see one. So, I wonder if Krisidious has a point above when he asks where we see his e-mail address.
Therefore I've set things as TIG recommended as that allows communication but obviates the concern about the e-mail address (wherever it is) being public.
Thanks again.

Cotty contacted me and told me that he can get my email from going to my profile and hitting contact me. I still can't see it. But he showed me my email address, so it's there.

Mods and Admins have the added ability to see a users email.
This is so we can circumvent any potential spam, fraudulent or malicious activity.
-
Ahh so it's not visible to normal users... groovy. I get an email when someone sends a pm, so I don;t see any real reason for an email address to be visible to normal users.
-
Are there any normal users here?
-
Yes, hats off to the dude
-
I'm a normal user... I resigned my moderatorship years ago.
-
I'm a normal user too, but that wasn't the definition of normal I was questioning.
You don't have to be insane to be here, but it certainly helps. -
Oh, well no... Personally, I am not normal.
