Tool cursors changing..
-
I am currently changing over from a windows environment (that I have been working in since Rls 3) to a Mac pro with the most current version of Yosemite. Forgive me if I don't know a lot about Macs..it's all new to me. It's a pretty nice setup..dual video cards, 6 core processor, 24 gig of RAM...while I am getting pretty comfortable with the Mac O/S so far I have been having other issues with some software like Sketchup. I loaded 2015 for Mac, and I was starting to work on an new project. When I would choose a tool, like the tape measure, or the push pull, when I clicked on the tool icon the cursor would change to the appropriate icon but then the second I would go to use the tool it would change back to a black arrowhead. The tool would function normally.. I was able to take a measurement, and extrude a wall..and when I hit space bar it would change back to being select. I was wondering if anyone else has had this happen to them. Previously to this in the drawing I had imported a .DWG and had just finished erasing the parts I didn't need and tracing over some lines to turn walls into faces. All that time the tools worked perfectly and the cursor icons showed up normally... then all of a sudden it started to not show the icons when a tool was being used. I saved and quit the drawing, quit Sketchup and reopened it and it was doing the same thing. It was late Friday afternoon so I didn't try a system reboot.. I just shut it down and went home.... I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this..

On my MBP retina I have on occasion noticed SketchUp tool cursors acting a bit flakey. The most common situation is that I activate a tool and the cursor fails to change until the next time I click on something (or sometimes when I next move the mouse). I think there is something fundamental involved, as I also saw this on previous versions of SketchUp. No proof, just a hunch, but I wonder if it is somehow related to SketchUp's use of OpenGL on high-dpi displays on the Mac.

@Steve, have you ever ran this on SU? https://developer.apple.com/library/mac/documentation/GraphicsAnimation/Conceptual/HighResolutionOSX/Testing/Testing.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/TP40012302-CH6-SW1
johnjohn,
I messed some with the Quartz debugging tool back when Fredo's view.draw_text was discovered to be too tiny on retina, but a) found no way to change what SU does in that method, and b) never thought it had anything to do with flaky cursors so didn't dig deep into that. The annoying thing is that the cursor issues though not infrequent are not consistently repeatable. Sometimes they happen, sometimes not...I've never detected a specific trigger.
