I mentioned sometime ago I'd post the LightUp version of this. So here it is - just put the Ruby in your plugins folder.

Right-click on a ComponentInstance and choose "Replace with Proxy Component" to flip it into a box.
Right-click again to restore the original geometry.

Adam if only you could make proxy boxes be rendered as original components (on export 2d grafics) it'd be the greatest break thru!

Thank you Adam. Your plugin is based Ghostcomp really! is very useful but I still am disappointed, I just want an even lighter than wireframe in order to turn quickly in a complex scene.

What you're asking is Level-of-Detail switching which is going to be clunky in SU. You could do something that watched the camera position etc but its a real hack. So what you ask is something for Google not me. 😞

Ah, well if you're using that very fine LightUp software, this happens automagically when you switch to Tourtool mode.

Adam, I can't seem to get this plugin to work.

If I right click on a component, the component doesn't box up. If I click it again, it disappears altogether.

          Any clues? Mac OSX perhaps?

Got the proxy plugin working- but only with specific types of components, ie it doesn't seem to work with 2D components (not that this really matters at this stage though πŸ˜„ )

              Hi,
I also have a plugin called "proxy" on the RLD: http://rhin.crai.archi.fr/RubyLibraryDepot/plugin_details.php?id=599 by A. Billyard: "Swaps component definitions with bounding boxes."
Does this one do the same thing ? Apparently yes.

I love this plug in. If it did batches or mixed selections I'd be over the moon. I like to make all my furniture and appliances proxies and switch them back for viewing or publishing but doing them one at a time is a bummer.

cc, I have sent you, by personal message, my version of Bounding Box View. It works with individual components or a selection.

Nothing is worthless, it can always be used as a bad example.

Got it and using it! Works great I place all my heavy components on a layer and use select all on layer and bingo a punch of simple boxes.

Here is a little trick. Some times snaping to a point on some components can be a pain. So I just make a proxy move or copy it using the proxy rectangle which is easy to find points on and then just switch it back.

                        Anyway thanks!!!

I liked a lot this plugin, until I had a bugsplat, and my autosave didn't store the original models of the proxy cubes.

I installed the finder plugin but I can't find it in my Scap, I right-click and it's not found, what do I do?

Proxy View plugin does not reveal the component.

Suddenly the plugin stopped working, and I have all my blocks stuck in the proxy. Not returning to component.
