I'm having trouble importing complex STL files into Skethcup using the usual STL Import and Export plugin,

What trouble? Might be worth addressing this first.

So happy I found this!!! Im new to sketch up and I was having trouble installing the house builder extension which was a zipped file with .rb files. Was so lost! Time saver you are.
