Just some new trees for Thea....
-
Very nice, Rich.
Were they created in SU? -
thanks Daniel
No I didn't use SU because of the time involved.
I used Blender to generate tree mesh and particle system to populate needle
-
Pretty. Are you going to put them up somewhere. Thanks! though I don't have Thea.. nice work!
-
They'll be added as premium content that will have the Thea mats set so you can add them as proxies and just click render.
-
Bit heavy for SU but I'll include .skp just to be sure.
-
close ups of the needles! nice! how many faces per tree?
-
No geometry for needles.
-
So that's instancing inside an instance, bit like inception! Go deeper and instance bugs on the needles . Yeah i meant just a close up render to see the glory of the details. You should do full geometry skp too so trees can be rendered in other apps as instances. Has sapling plugin improved/developed or is it still the same?
-
the process is a bit involved but the end result in terms of close-ups in controllable.
i won't go into the whole process as it is incredibly boring.
but in short i start by creating a section of branch using real geometry. I render out 8 variations as .png....
...these a particle systems on a cylinder.
I then create the trunk using the skin modifier.
I then add particles and arrays to the trunk to generate the branches.
job done...
what's controllable is the initial branch render. So the higher res you go with that the closer you can get with the camera...
this tree is 5mb as a .skp which isn't too bad considering.
again my drive to stay away from nested components provides a big performance boost in SU.

Rich
Just super models.
Please pub the SU files as even large landscape models can be used for face-me images when turned and scaled a bit in SU.
Also even big single models can be exported to Artlantis which can handle really big files and be used as ATL objects. Thanks for the really good work

You'll have them soon enough in skp and thea format
-
i forgot to say thanks for the mini tut
-
Ur welcome.

Click this to see animation...
....with drag drop proxy support for thea
...materials setup
...skp and .obj formats
-
These look great will they be available anywhere in sketchup format ?
-
They'll be in Shop on Monday.
Pack includes 15 variants. In .skp and obj. All properly mapped and norm and spec maps included.
For Thea users they will be a very efficient proxies in SU.
They will be free for Premium members.

Super work, Rich, and will be very useful to me since I live on the Pacific coast.
Thank you not only for these, but for all the tireless effort you put in to make a great graphics environment for us all.
-
Well I know that Rich loves gardening.
-
Ha ha...
And I planted lots of real trees today....
Those trees you got look nice.
Where you get them?
