First Experiment with Artisan
-
Not much to look at. I'm still getting the hang of how shapes should be manually subdivided first for best results. This is the first shape I got to look like I wanted.
I know what I'll be doing this summer with my free time.

I agree it is a powerful piece of kit and it will take a while to get the best from. Looking forward to getting some decent results myself.

If you run into any trouble I'm sure that regular Artisan users like myself will be happy to take a look at your proxy models and give you some pointers.
There is a methodology, but there are so many variables for any given shape that it's hard to put together a definitive workflow that everyone can learn.
One important general tip is to avoid n-gons (keep it to quads and tris). You'll get more predictable results and much cleaner geometry after running Artisan.

Thanks Hieru!
I'm watching every tutorial I can find and watching them twice.
The use of quads and tris are re-enforced over and over in all of them and man, they aren't kidding.
There are some great tuts here as well. The lighcycle and bidet are two very good ones and show that the manual subdivision of quads and even quads into tris are key to it all.
You are right, there seems to be no specific workflow. It really does seem to be more of an art that comes with experience.
Thanks for the offer of help. I'm sure I will be calling on all of you as I have done before and have received nothing but very friendly and professional assistance from one and all.

There are a lot of example models here, you can download them and play with the proxies to study their influences on the final meshes ...
