SketchUp and OBJ edge problem
-
Hello, guys
So I love sketchup for modeling architecture, but I have one problem now days I want to use modo for the detailed area's of my model and my UVW mapping but I have one problem. When exporting my OBJ too modo I get triangulated faces and I really hate that. It looks ugly and is a bitch to UVW when I need too.
How would I get rid of them when exporting, I have used the cleanup tool with sketchup but it does not get rid of the unnecessary edges for my models.
Thank You

Many file formats triangulate faces.
So all those diagonal lines that you see are a result of that.
On imported geometry in a SKP...
Many of those are 'coplanar edges' and can be Erased manually without adversely affecting the facets or materials already applied.
If there are a lot of them then manual Erasing is a pain...
Fortunately there are several plugins which will remove such edges...
Look for thomthom's 'Cleaner' which has this as one of its many 'cleaning' tools...If you are using the Pro exporter you can choose to NOT triangulate faces, but some receiving apps expect triangulation... you need to choose and try...
Surely your 3rd-party receiving app has equivalents to erase or hide coplanar edges ??
If you are using my OBJ-exporter [for Free/Make] then there is no choice - triangulated faces are the standard. -
I was wondering where is the pro obj exporter I have obj exporter but not pro. Also with cleaner from thomthom when still exporting it will still triangulate
-
I thought the native OBJ exporter came with Pro only
Please explain...
There is my clunkier OBJexporter Ruby, BUT that [unlike the Pro version] doesn't have the option to NOT triangulate faces.
You need to deal with the triangulation in the receiving app...
Can you try another format like DAE ?
