Crtl-C one Sketchup file Crtl-V another Sketchup file
-
Oh, I wasn't trying to paste in place. Just get the smaller part into another new file. However, when it works, I do get the same orientation, so when I am done with the mods, I can paste back into the original file and have the same orientation, not the same place.
Thanks for your reply.

I understand Ken, but I was pointing out that paste still needs you to click and place the piece. Ctrl-V will make it appear but without a click it won't stay.

Well, I was trying to paste in an empty file. So I am going to add a line, then paste to the line. Thanks for the tip. Hope it works.
Thanks

Ken I'm not sure if we are talking at cross purposes. You should be able to simply click anywhere to release the pasted piece from the cursor, you don't need a line.
If Ctrl-v isn't attaching the piece to the cursor then something is strange. But if it's just that you aren't placing the piece then it isn't a bug.If you watch the video you'll see me hit ctrl-v and Derrick appears but I can move him around until I click to place him. The second time I ctrl-v and can move him but I hit spacebar before I click and he disappears.

OK, I have watch the video, and that is the way it used to work. Now, when you man shows up you can move him around, than place him, in my case the man just flashes on the screen for less that a second. I have no time to place the man.
I don't have a screen video program, so I can't show you want is happening.

Ken, have you tried using Edit>Paste in place instead of the plain old Paste?

OK, not saying this is the problem, however if I have layer panel loaded I get my problem, a flash of the part after using Crtl-v, however if I load layer panel, it behaves as it did before.
I know more testing is required.

I installed Layer Panel to test it, I don't seem to get any issues with it. But you never know what combination of plugins can cause anomalies.

Yep, that is why I didn't want to make an issues that Layer panel was the problem. I have a lot of plugins, so I expect to have trouble sometimes.
OK, found the problem, I think. First I would like to say, I am not the Ken that will be going to Base Camp. He is not this stupid.
Well somewhere I changed my template. So the template had a very up close setting, so what was being pasted, wasn't in the small view. So when, I redid the template to a size closer to the copied and pasted part, there it was.
Red all over my face.
Now I will be able to sleep tonight.
Again, thanks for all the help and replies.

OK, I have noticed this with 2013 and haven't run 2014 to really know if it occurs just in 2013 or also in 2014.
Sometime, I wish to take a small part out of Sketchup model and just work on that particular part. So I highlight the part, do a Ctrl-C to copy the part, and then save the file, then open a new file, then do a Ctrl-V. Most of the times the part is transferred from one Sketchup file to another, from the old to the new. However, sometimes, it briefly appears in the new file, I can see it appear, then it disappears and is not placed into the new file. Seems this has been happening more and more lately.
Anyone else having this problem, or am I just out there by myself?
Thanks in advance for your help.
The reason that happens is that in your old drawing the objects are in a named layer that you don't have in the new drawing. Try changing the objects in the old one to Layer0 and it will work for sure in the new one. Or create a layer with the same name in the new drawing as well.

This issue was indeed related to Layers Panel, I fixed it in the last release.

Darn, will thank you for looking at the problem. Like I said, I have a bunch of plugins and don't want to blame a plugin, because some times it is a combination.
However, I appreciate you looking at the problem and making the correction.
Now, I won't have to go to Base Camp incognito.
And agrazdi, thank you for your input also.

You should! Plugins must play well with others.
Plus, sometimes a conflict is really easy to fix.Anyway, in this case it was not a conflict, it was easy to fix, and I would have never see it if users didn't tell me
