How to Erase a Surface

Hi,
I guess I'm a newbie, and have a very basic question. I can't figure out how to erase a surface without erasing the lines in Sketchup 2014.

Like always: pick the tool and click on the surface. Then press "del" on your keyboard or click on the erase (not the eraser) button.

Be sure to click only once on the surface, double click will select the edges too...
