I am new hear. Decided to sign up as a lot of my Google searches landed me to this site.
Using Sketchup Pro and SU.
I am pleased with Sketchup after 25 years of AutoCAD 2D experience and wish I had moved to 3D sooner.
My only issue I am having is my zoom function on the mouse just doesn't work well. Have tried plugging in a different mouse but same results. Sometimes it doesn't want to scroll/zoom at all and requires me to orbit or pan around and then try again. Sometimes it does zoom but only at about 1/10 the rate it should. I have tried resetting the mouse controls with no success.
I am considering buying a 3D device for my left hand or any other good option. I just hate spending $250+ for something I might not use and I am really going to have to force myself to use it as the center click scroll SHOULD work great.
I did plugin a griffin powermate and the scroll is perfect. But just not worth moving my hand from keyboard for a one function (zoom) device.
Back to searching.

Zoom with the cursor over over an object/geometry.
Don't zoom with the cursor floating in space

Thanks. I have the cursor over something (as if that is where I want to go) but its zooming very very slow.

And are you in perspective or orthographic view?
It is kinda hard to deduce the issue based on what you have written so far.
Is your mouse wheel sensitivity changed from the default?
Zooming in SketchUp is pretty fast until you get to either incredibly large scenes or minutely small scenes.

Rich now that you mention it I have been working with larger scene than I have in the past. Maybe this has something to do with it. I will test that and see.
I reset the Microsoft Mouse back to default and no change. And I am in perspective view.

How large are we talking? Miles?

Oh not large in actual distance. I am sorry, I was talking in detail. The model is about 500'.
I just meant it was getting large in size/file size. House that has full details including all framework, drywall, carpet, tile, trim, etc.
Probably pretty typical or actually conservative for most of you here.
