I seem to have templates with duplicate names:

      • Where are Layout templates stored?
      • How do I delete templates?
      • How do I bring up an existing template and make modifications?

When I send a file to LayOut from SketchUp, there are all kinds of styles showing up in LayOut that are not part of my sketchup file:

      • How do I remove unwanted style references from my LayOut file?
      • Is this something that can be controlled via the templates? (see above questions)

          different locations.
          default is C:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Roaming\SketchUp 2013\Layout\Scrapbooks
          and C:\ProgramData\SketchUp\SketchUp 2013\Layout\Scrapbooks
and you can make your own folder. hit the + in preferences>folders
        • How do I delete templates?
go to the above locations and delete the file.
        • How do I bring up an existing template and make modifications?
in the scrapbook window inside Layout there is an edit button. you can also go to the locations above and edit.

have you purged in sketchup? there should only be styles from the file.
        • Is this something that can be controlled via the templates? (see above questions)
          kinda... on the sketchup side.

Click on Edit > Preferences > Folders and the location of your templates and scrapbooks will be displayed.

To update a template I start a new document using the template and save it to the template folder with the same name. Alternatively you can go to the directory where it is saved and double click to open it.

Thanks to everyone for their replies. I now see the templates and I understand what has been said. Looks like I will have to go through all of my components and update the styles in them. Even though the model I am sending from SketchUp to LayOut has my default as the only style in the model, many of the components probably have some other styles which are inherited into the model but to do show when you do Window>Styles (I made sure I had removed all of the styles in the model except the desired one). It is kind of deceiving that you do not see the "hidden" styles in the components.

I have over a hundred components (some inherited from another source) that I will have to go clean up to gain control of this situation.

Once again, I appreciate the responses. Someday I will understand these two applications and gain the control I want.

There shouldn't be any "hidden styles" in your model. You should be able to see any styles in the In Model styles library. But just to be sure, open some of the components individually and take a look. If you are getting components from other sources, it is best to check them out carefully before using them. This would be especially true with components from the 3D Warehouse.
