If you cannot make it work with this STL plugin (http://extensions.sketchup.com/en/content/sketchup-stl), can you please post the STL file for inspection?

Using the plugin I linked to it imported fine without any problems.

          STL Import.PNG

Are you using that plugin, or some other variant?

I try on a seven 32 machine and... it works !
I do exactly the same with my seven 64 machine and it does not work. I cannot import the file I've uploaded on the forum.
SO why does it not work with seven 64 ?

              I use Windows 7 64bit. It's working fine.

I'm guessing it's either not installed correctly or might not be using the latest version.

Have you ensured you have the latest version? How did you install it?

If you open the Ruby Console (Under Windows > Ruby Console) do you see any errors when you try to use the plugin?

Do you have FULL security permissions set for the Plugins folder for ALL listed ?
That might be the difference and so the 64bit limited Plugins folder looks OK but Windows ahs put somethings into a VirtualStore ??

I verify security permissions set to ALL for users.
                  Ruby console says :
                  No such file or directory - C:\Users\François\Dropbox\Imprimante 3D replicator2\Modeles pour imprimantes 3D\Camera_Phone_Stand\Camera_Phone_Stand\UpperHolder.stl
                  C:/Program Files (x86)/Google/Google SketchUp 8/Plugins/sketchup-stl/importer.rb:125:in initialize' C:/Program Files (x86)/Google/Google SketchUp 8/Plugins/sketchup-stl/importer.rb:125:in open'
                  C:/Program Files (x86)/Google/Google SketchUp 8/Plugins/sketchup-stl/importer.rb:125:in detect_file_type' C:/Program Files (x86)/Google/Google SketchUp 8/Plugins/sketchup-stl/importer.rb:62:in main'
                  C:/Program Files (x86)/Google/Google SketchUp 8/Plugins/sketchup-stl/importer.rb:52:in `load_file'
And then nothing appears, the file is not import
                  ??

At last we have the culprit...
                    " François"
                    Used in the file-path contains a 'non-ASCII character' [ ç].
In the current version of Ruby as ported with PC SketchUp this will cause unexpected failures in several File related processes...
We can but hope that the next SketchUp version will address this long complained about issue. 😒

For all SketchUp-Ruby related processing, use file-paths that do not include any such 'accented characters', and you should find the tools will then work just fine !

Ah, the old Unicode issue with Ruby. I'm filing an issue in the STL project to provide a message when this occurs. Thanks.

On the same machine, I create an account without ç and no problem the import works perfectly.
                            Thank you for all
