      Hello everyone,

I have been away for a while and I'm trying to find info on the MR SU plugin and the status of linking to external high poly geometry via proxies. Has there been any progress here during the last year?

      Thanks in advance! πŸ˜„

there are proxies and MXS-references. Proxies are linked to another component that has to be loaded in the sketchup file aswell. Proxies had been there for a long time.
I think what you mean/need is MXS-references. You can insert an external MXS file which components will be displayed as bounding box with a refernce point, a point cloud or other degraded geometry display like in max or studio is not possible in sketchup. But beside that it works great and is a real game changer! I use it all the time (massively) for trees, cars, objects or even a terrain build in max.

I agree, you should use msx references instead of proxies... and take a look to frv (Francois) fantastic work...

                Danble,
in what way does your reply answer the question about Maxwell or are you just spamming the Sketchucation forum.

I didnt mean to create the appearance of spam, but the comment was regarding a feature of maxwell's that we use in our own plugin.

It sounded like there was interest in proxy rendering systems so I felt it might fit the context.

                  Sorry for any misunderstanding.

I am interested in proxy rendering systems but am unaware of BU that interacts with Maxwell. If you have something of interest considering proxies please start a new thread and expose this feature.

But I have taken a look at the BU website and its not very informative. Apart from the fact that it looks like pay by the hour for even just testrenders. We render nonstop just to see what we are doing. It looks like BU will bankrupt us in notime....or imagine an internet blackout before a deadline. All that modeling done for nothing...

                      Very interesting news!
Is it possible to scatter these MXS-references to populate vegetation and so on? Is it possible to get an idea about rotation and precise location within SU or will several test renders be necessary to tweak the location of these MXS-references?

                        Yes

Not really. In sketchup you get only bounding boxes. You can guess the rotation if the reference contains several components and you know which one is displayed.

actually, the bounding boxes generated by the plugin include hidden geometry in the .mxs file.
So you can just add a box somewhere in the .mxs model that reveals the direction of the .mxs model. With a little imagination you can actually place and locate a .mxs reference exactly in SU.

                              yes, sure
but be careful with their size, if you use fire inside Sketchup because it is only 32bit. (if you use fire inside studio or other 64bit apps this will be no problem)
