Error message saying files are not writable
-
Hello new poster here.
I have bought a new pc, running win8, I have downloaded sketchup2013 (been using older versions for 5 years).
Frequently an error message pops up saying "unable to update the evaluation time. Make shure that C:\ProgramData\Sketchup\Sketchup2013\sketchup13.If is writable" comes on the screen.
any ideas?
thanks

That is odd. What Windows version do you have? Do you run as a User or Administrator? Do you have UAC enabled?

I am running win8, never used it before, fumbling around in metroland.
The problem was, as you suggested, running the program as a user, I followed these instructions http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-YRJQ4uMyo , and now the problem has gone.
Thank you very much.

same here... I think i have the rights to write there...
This is in SU2013, in SU 8 I did not have that. Is it may over when entering a licence?

SketchUp 2013 requires a license file no matter whether you have the Pro version (license file contains Pro license key) or the free "Make" version (contains agreement for non-commercial use). While SketchUp 8 tried to make the executables more different to prevent licensing problems, they reverted that and made the executables almost identical, introducing a lot of new problems under certain circumstances (Make turns itself into expired Pro, refuses to run more than 1 instance, or refuses to run as "portable" app).
I assume the above problem was due to user/admin priviledges (in an ideal world, programs would absolutely never request you to run as admin). Strangely the license file is sometimes located at different places, like
Users/Public/AppData/SketchUp/SketchUp 2013/SketchUp13.lf
which is writeable with simple user privileges. Maybe SketchUp will also find it when you move it there?
