      How to select a segment of a cylinder (or cone) for painting only this segment ? Thanks for answer

        View > Hidden Geometry == ON
        Shows the smoothed edges between faces... which then allows you to select/edit/erase/paint etc individual facets forming a surface, which would otherwise appear continuous when View > Hidden Geometry == OFF...
