Zorro crashing
-
Has anyone come up with a solution to Zorro causing SU to crash? It's such a handy tool when it works, absolutely fantastic, but it constantly crashes the program, it's driving me nuts. I've read everything I can find here in the forums and people have talked about it crashing a lot but I couldn't find any mention of a solution to the problem. I've also tried the equivalent tool in Subdivide and Smooth, same results. Any help or suggestions to at least minimize the problem would be greatly appreciated.

I bet that tool could be suffering from some issues introduced in 8.0. That might not be the only problem, but it could be compounding it. One of the main things that zorro does is almost completely broekn in SU 8 (casting rays). So it is likely you will be having constant problems in.

So if I downloaded an earlier version of SU it might work better? What version should I try, and can I have two different versions running on the same computer, and if so where would I find an earlier version? How's that for a bunch of questions? Jeez, that's another question

It is a theory. There are known problems with raycasting in SU 8 ruby right now. They should all get fixed up in the next maintenance release of SU 8.
But you could try downloading an older version of SU and see if it crashes less?

Never crash with the V6

Yes (I have 3 different free ) but install it in different Folders!
For old version (down scroll) I don't know if you can load Pro but for the Free that works fine

I found a copy of version 7 on my computer, installed it but had major problems with being able to load a version 8 model in version 7. Would always load it in version 8, even if I specified version 7 as the program I wanted to open it with. Noticed your comment about putting it in a separate folder so just uninstalled version 7 and will give that a try. Boy this program is fun

SU7 won't open models saved in SU8 unless you choose 'save as' .skp v7. Once SU8 is installed it becomes the default app for opening files via double clicking. Instead just start SU7 and choose File>Open....
There ways to get around this but for now this is easiest.

SU8 isn't default. It seem to go by which version was opened last. If v7 was opened last, then double clicking will open the file in v7.

Never noticed that? Nice tip

Now that's interesting. Will give it a try, thanks.

could be stupid but my SU kept crashing when i would create a group from slice, so i tried fiddling around with other variables. i found that when i turned off axes and guides when i was slicing the model, it stopped crashing. dont know why, just did.
