Help with Adobe Photoshop or Alternatives to it
-
Hello,
I'm trying to learn how to modify textures and do some post processing of renders, and a lot of the research that I've been doing leads me to Adobe Photoshop. I recently looked up their products, and being a newbie (and a bit of a cheapskate), I bought something called "Light Room" based on the features that it seemed to offer and the price. Unfortunately, it seems to do NOTHING that I want, so I'm a bit bummed about wasting my money, but more importantly, I don't have a usable graphics editing program (or at least one the I think I can use). So, before I go throwing good money after bad, I'd like to know if anybody has recommendations on alternatives to Photoshop to do the kind of graphic editing suitable for SketchUp, or which of the many "options" that Adobe offers gives me the biggest bang for the buck.
Thanks for any help you could give me.
Frank.

Try GIMP. It lacks the latest advanced features of PS (especially the 3d stuff) but has the traditional features.

Gimp2 also has many plugins that replicate other PS functions... AND you can also load many PS plugins if you get the right Gimp addon...
Gimp2 has extensive pages of help, advice and plugin/addon stuff...

You can join Adobe 's cloud service and use the full Photoshop program for a monthly fee of $19.99 a month, plus you get all the latest upgrades as they are pushed out free.

Adobe offer a free trial of Light Room. In fact, most software companies offer free trials of their software. Why did you buy it without having a trial first?

Oddly John, I'm struggling to find the point let alone the helpful part of your post.

Lightroom will not do what the OP is wanting to do. Photoshop is the best for the job

Wow! Thanks to everyone for their advice. After doing some (more thorough) research, I decided to try GIMP. The model is a lot like Sketchup with an open source code, plug-ins, and lots of active users and support.
NEXT time, I'll be sure to query the sketchucation board before I buy something so I can benefit from everybody's experience.
Many thanks!!!

I was just wondering why he bought software that offers a free trial without actually trialling it first. He claims to be a cheapskate, yet he probably spent $80 on software that he found was of no use to him. He could have taken the free trial and found that out for absolutely nothing.
