Is there a way to do this/has anyone seen a plugin around? I'm using C4D with 3ds export for animation, problem being if there is a change to geometry I have to save out the concerned group as a component, open the component, and export from there. Maybe I'm missing a simpler pipeline...

The 3ds-Exporter Options dialog includes a check-box to 'export selection only' - so why can't you just use that
