Display components as placeholder boxes?
-
Is it possible to do as in 3ds max and any other modelling program : to display complicated components as placeholder boxes?
I m building a fence and i cant use a texture as I need to see its "3 dimensionality"... the file is tiny but impossible to work with because of display problems...
Any help would (really!) appreciated

Will this increase performance when working with complex scenes/models?

Anything you do to reduce the amount of a information that gets pushed through the GPU will help keep performance up.

Just in the interests of using native tools.
It is possible to construct a model with many simple "box" components and then replace them with a complex component when you are ready.
Easily done in the component window. select the instances and replace selection. -
Or you can have a set of simpler models (boxes) as components and more elaborate ones saved as skp files. Then either reload each manually when needed or use TIG's xref manager plugin.
