Elliptic Gears
-
I'm going to guess that if the involute gear plugin does not support elliptic gears, then there probably is no plugin for it.
You could contact CADalog and see if they'll incorporate it though.

Don't know if it's free and the export formatI know this tool. It seems promising. But the guy has not decided yet, how he wants to publish it. By now there is no export format.

Component stringer AND Ddider's ellipse plugin: http://rhin.crai.archi.fr/rld/plugin_details.php?id=124
as it makes ellipses with equal segments. -
Hi enhydra, hi folks.
In your image, you show two small circular gears meshed with a larger elliptical one.
For this to work, you need a way to accomodate changes in axis distance.
Normally, elliptical gears are meshed with other elliptical gears.
See this web page for some formula:
You will see that defining the exact shape for the teeth is not so simple.
Just ideas.

Even not elliptical gears are no so simple too
38 parameters!

Hi Pilou, hi folks.
You are right. Imagine with square gears. Yes, they exist.
See this page:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-circular_gear
And this one for even more strange looking shapes for gears. Look for the fish shaped one at mid length. Really funny.

@gilles & by Gaieus: I will take a look at these two plugins. Hope they do the job.

Yes, I am aware of that. Take a look at http://skfb.ly/5k3ecba. A rubber band will press the smaller gear towards the elliptic gear.
You get the point: Dealing with gears is quite challenging. But@Pilou
I am not bothered by all of the 38 parameters. -
Terrific gears indeed!
And crazzy wood clocks -

Kind of reminds me of the intro to the old Swedish TV show Tekniskt Magasin.

Unfortunately the plugin "Compnent Stringer" won't work for this kind of problem. Especially if you are interessted in a proper solution. For makers and tinkerers the plugin and also my way are good enough.
