      Hi,
I built a model and chose to 'hide' grouped parts of it, so thatI could work on particular parts easier.
I then saved the file with the objects still hidden...

now i've come to open the file again and the hidden objects are nowhere to be found!
I've tried to 'Unhide' but nothing happens. The objects were grouped, not components, so they're not in the components folder.

      help would be much appreciated...

      thanks
      rhys

Unless you incidentally selected "Erase" instead of "Hide" from the context menu (some people often complain that they are too close to each other), these groups should be there.

As Nick says, they may be nested somewhere deeper. You can turn on hidden geometry under the View menu to display any hidden groups. Also, open Window > Instructor and see if you have those groups listed there.

To make sure we understand what you did: you truly hid them, did not put them on some hidden layers, didn't you?

        Gai...

yeah - i definitely hid them.
ive turned on hidden geometry and they have appeared as a dotted line/ghosted... so thats great.
now i just need to find which group they are nested within!
          thanks

I have had this problem as well with groups. If you hide objects which are inside a group while you are in edit mode within that group, when you exit edit mode and hit 'unhide' nothing happens. If you go back into edit mode within the group and 'unhide' the object will reappear. It depends on what 'level' within the group you are working at. You will need to mine down into the group and try 'unhide' at each level. Not sure exactly what the parameters are.
A good way to avoid getting stuck is to set up scenes which capture the style and other settings before you start editing. Then if things go pear shaped just click on the scene tab and anything hidden during the edit will be visible again.
Another way to find them is to check the Outliner under the Windows tab, which lists everything in the model. If you click on an item in the Outliner list it will highlight it on the screen

Rhys Ifan, don't miss Nick's comment about the Outliner. It is a very valuable tool.

Rhys, no need to send me a PM. Better to keep it visible to everyone on the thread. That way everyone who has viewed it and contributed knows that it has been resolved and that you appreciated their input.
If I post a question and end up finding the answer myself, I still answer my own post to 'draw a line under it'.
It also means that anyone with the same problem might find the post useful, you never know.
Don't mean to embarrass you or anything, just thought it was worth pointing out. Glad you got it sorted

If I remember correctly, when you turn on hidden geometry, you can click on the hidden geometry in question and drill back down into the group and unhide it. Can anyone concur?
