How can one restore files? Does the SU team help with this? Need it fast as I must start to redraw it if necessary.

Big bummer. I open the file and the whole house is gone. All the versions I have in back up either lack the latest work or are unreadable, or the house is gone. I can get back to files at the point I should have the latest work but they won't open in SU. This was due tomorrow...

Sorry, Peter. I'm back in use and when starting back up had issues with load fails and crashes. I deleted scads of plugins and got back in the saddle. Loaded any new ones lately?
How far back do you have to go to get a working model? That is weird that the files would have been saved in a corrupt form and it seems more likely that something else is amiss. Try a non-pro prog load; try a different load on a different computer?

Peter, have you looked in the In Model Components library? Are your components there? Of course if you made groups they wouldn't be.

          What about the ~skp file?

I had a file once that for some reason would not open and it was straight after saving, I closed and re-opened to get an error message that said something like it was not a recognised file, what I did is open it in a 3rd party app and save it again as a .3ds then import into SU and do a cleanup. I hope this helps as losing a lot of work is frustrating.

I had another thought that might work. Although it's been years since I ran into this, I have had some corrupted files that, after I e-mailed them to myself, I was able to open successfully. No one has ever been able to tell me why it worked but it did. As they say about chicken soup, it couldn't hurt.

This was an odd one. Although SU IS very unstable for me in general, I am usually backing up and autosave etc. I don't lose much (always save before some operations). In this case something happened and I saved the file (maybe) and also it was saved to my back up disk. However I have editions of back up for every day.

The files open in a text editor instead of SU. It seems like the files went bad but then the main copy was still OK but no house.

even if you have autosave turned off it may be worth doing a spotlight search for Autosave_Autosave it strange what turns up...

DOH! πŸ‘Š YES the components are there! πŸ˜’

WHY did I not save the whole house as a component- it's a group? But much of the windows and things I was doing yesterday are there and I can insert into the house version that I do have. That was most of the work I was missing!

The ultimate reason to make components I guess.

Yeah I have "~" and autosave files (No SKB though I have that checked) from different days and hours, so recovering has been confusing. Same problems.

I'll try the email thing. I don't know of any third party SW I have that open SU.

Thanks guys! πŸ˜„ The components pretty much bring me back I think. Now I can go home for Valentines Day dinner and not be a grump.

Phew! I'm glad you made at least some components and that it helped. It's one of my supporting arguments for only making components. πŸ˜‰

Fingers crossed about the e-mailing thing.

                      And enjoy your Valentine's evening.
