Happy New Year!I have Sketchup 8 in Windows.Using the Sandbox from Scratch tool I have created a rock formation that I will place in Flight Simulator X.The Projected Texture method worked perfectly from a photo of a rock wall.So far so good. The second rock formation is complete but the texturing is a problem.Instead of projecting the texture onto rock #2 it is projecting the texture onto just the individual polygons that make up the rock.I've had to click on dozens of polygons(or groups of polygons) to get a seamless texture.I created both rocks in the same way with the same tools but texturing is different.Rock #1 has 1 texture file but rock #2 has 3 texture files. Can I completeley delete these multiple textures and how do I make the rock a single entity so I can retexture it in one step?
      Thanx in advance! unclegreg

Any chance for at least a screen shot if not the SKP file? It would be easier to help.

Where did you put the material before projecting it?

          WhiteRock.jpg showing texture
This jpg shows the textured rock after painstakingly clicking on many polygons. One thing I should mention is that this is a .skb file as I somehow lost the .skp file. Also,in my frustration,I used two different methods to texture this so maybe I injected too many textures into it? one method is from the Sketchup pdf using the file>import method, the other is from "Sketchup for Dummies"-Projected Texture Method. The problem lies in compiling the file through ModelConverterX to get to a .bgl file that FSX can read.I end up with 3 DDS files and FSX can't seem to decide which to use.The end result is a black rock in the flight sim.I hope this makes sense.

The .jpg came from my pictures folder and went into the paintbucket "in model" file.

Did you tried with ThruPaint or SketchUV ($)?

It sounds to me as if you've got too many things going on here and with all the variables and without the SKP file, it is probably going to be us guessing at what happened. Save the opened file again to get the SKP file and post that.

Out of curiosity, are the faces reversed in SketchUp? That would be a likely cause for the rock appearing black once exported.

                Dave,
I can't seem to upload the .skp file.My computer just sits and spins. As for your question about faces being reversed,I don't know what that means. Is there a way for me to backtrack to just the rock before I mucked it up with my ignorance and impatience and multiple attempts to texture it? When I open the .dae file in ModelConverterX everything seems fine, it's the next step converting it to a .bgl with .dds texture that is the problem. Thanx for your patience.

So how big is the SKP file?

As to the reversed faces, faces have fronts and backs. The default back face color is a blue gray while the front is white (may look gray when at an angle to the camera.) and you can see the colors if you change to Monochrome face style. This face thing is sort of a fundamental thing you need to understand about using SketchUp.

If you want to entirely remove the materials from your model file, open the Materials browser and set it to In Model. Then right click on the thumbnails and choose Delete. If the matertial is currently applied to something in the model, you'll be asked if you want to use the default material instead. Choose the affirmative and continue until there are no material thumbnails left. Or maybe you just need to get rid of some of them?

By the way, that's a nice dirt missile outfit you've got there. 😄

Thanx for the advice,Dave,I'll work on it tomorrow. The .skp file ended up a whopping 38.5 MB.I'm going to check on the reversed faces and I'm definitely going to delete all the textures and start over.It took me about 3 seconds to get your "dirt missile outfit".Skydiving is still the biggest thrill you can have with someone strapped to your back.
