I can't fault the modeling or texturing. But it looks like a Lada that was styled off a Porsche.

500% better than if I tried to make a car out my mind's eye. And it's a lot better than my current ride.... πŸ˜’

I really appreciate your candor, that's the kind of feedback I've been looking for

Hey, nothing wrong with that. I'm driving a mini-van for crying out loud. A Ford no less 😞

uhuh, very educational. I see some areas are one face but it all flows smoothly.

I love that knob texture. Takes me back. The slider heater controls too.

If I can offer something constructive: The front part of the seat is the only distraction in the image (for me-but I couldn't touch it.)

Not sure what you mean, are you saying that I should have hidden the seat before taking the shot?

The modelling is not as real as all the rest, IMO. It might be made more rounded or smoother looking.

Oh, the seats - I actually used seats from the Warehouse (can't remember who made them, I gave them credit in my original Roadster post). They were just stand-ins while I was working on the car, so I didn't smooth them out, and then I just got lazy. I did start on some new seats but never got around to finishing them (more lazy)

So I still have a good eye! It wasn't your work, not as good as the rest.

Since you made this in Sketchup I have to give huge props for the work you did. Smooth shapes and details. Exterior design itself is...well, not pretty in my opinion.

Yet another honest and frank criticism!!!! 😍 Much appreciated!
Like I said, I find it very difficult to stand back and look at my work and decide whether it's good or just crap. My imagination is just not very good I guess, and I'm glad I know that now. I will just stick with my classic cars, things that I know in advance how they should look when they're finished.
Well, I did learn a lot while I was doing this little experiment, so it wasn't time wasted.
Even if the end result was, well, el-crap-o 🀒 πŸ˜†

Hi there! Loved your work. I also want to learn modelling this sort of free form designs. Where do I start? Thanks.

I'm not really the one to ask this, my methods are haphazard and I waste a lot of time because I can't get the hang of using the plugins a good modeler would use for this type of work. I would highly recommend three books written by Elisei (http://books.sketchucation.com/) that explain in detail his methods. He is a great car modeler. Check out his website at http://ely862me.webs.com/.

The way I started was to download some car models from the Warehouse that interested me, then I studied them, used them to learn how to do basic things while I made changes to them, things like that. There are also some car modeling tutorials on the Warehouse, usually pretty basic but you might glean some useful tips from them.

Other than that it comes down to practice, practice, practice. Like anything you'll get better with time and experience. And don't hesitate to pick the brains of the people here on the forum (not me, those with the real expertise) whenever you have a problem or question. They are a bunch of incredible people who won't hesitate to help you out any way they can. I know I wouldn't have gotten very far without their support and guidance. And don't be afraid to ask a question even if you are afraid that it is a "dumb" question. The people here don't believe there is such a thing.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help. I don't know if you are interested in car modeling in particular or just free-form design in general, but it would be great to have another potential car modeler on board, and I'd love to see some of your work as you progress

Thank you very much for your wonderful reply. I'm interested in all sorts of designs but at this moment my focus is pretty much related to work I do that is of furniture design. Thanks again for your valuable suggestions.

Once again: an amazing job Hellnbak! Can't believe the smoothness in the model without using SS.

Taking another hat off for you sir πŸ˜‰
