Cutting Table -- WIP

Here's a project I'm working on for a client. This is the first proposal. She'll use it for cutting fabric in her sewing room. The doors and drawers as well as the pulls are still getting sorted out.

Dave, is the cutting typically done from a standing position, or would there be a need for a position with knee space?

Dale, I'm no Betsy Ross but I guess the seamstress for whom this table is being built does her cutting while standing. This table is 33" tall.

I'd strongly urge the customer to go for drawers only; that looks like reaching into the spaces behind the doors would be really tricky.
Is it intended to go against a wall or be free-standing in the middle of a room? If so, you could go for half-depth drawers for the bottom and pull-throughs for the top. Keep really common tools in the top drawers and access them from either side, keep less used stuff in the bottom deep drawers. -

It's free standing. there's some shelves on the opposite side so the space behind the two doors won't be all that deep. I might suggest drawers on one side anyway. The deep ones with two pulls are drawers for hanging files.

The reason I asked is I was discussion something like this for my wife, and she wanted to be able to stand and sit. Everyone has there own preference, and other available space for other tasks.

I'm doing the design work for a client of my client, a cabinet maker in North Carolina. He'll do the building of it. Like all of the projects I work on for him, we start with the design process and when the final design is settled on, I create the plans for him to work from.
I would think you could do something similar with only shallow drawers and maybe leave out the center legs and shelf.
When I first heard the project was to be a cutting table for a seamstress, I immediately thought about this large table designed by L.F.Herreshoff. It would be plenty big enough and would fit with the client's locale but she had other ideas.

Thank you Rich. Which one do you want to see exploded? Although most of the parts on the cutting table are component, there's no joinery, yet. I still have to work out final appearance details before I'll bother with that. The Herreshoff table is detailed with joinery already.
Roger, she might actually go for the Herreshoff table but she had something based on a Colonial style sideboard in mind so that's what I drew. I must say I'm pleased with those legs.

Nice Dave - have seen similar pieces by a company in UK called Chalon - looks very similar to an island unit they produce.
