Moving componets together
-
I finished a barbeque with several parts involved but cant move a part that goes along with the top cover to hang it on the side of the barbeque.I cant seem to group it with the cover and it always stays separate whatever I try.

It would be more helpful to have the SKP file but let's see if this helps.
As for moving the cover to hang on the grill, you just need to grab it by a logical point. A common error is to just grab the component anywhere with the Move tool. Then you have to approximate where to move the component instead of moving it precisely. In this case it looks like you need to first move the adjustable vent doo dad into place on the lid. Grab the vent thingy by a vertex on its bottom edge that you can locate to a vertex on the edge of the hole. Or identify the center of the hole and grab the vent thing at it's center and snap that to the center of the hole.
You should probably rotate the lid to at least close to its hanging orientation before trying to move it into place. I'd rotate it with the Move tool instead of the Rotate tool. then you can grab a point on the hook and move it to the rim of the grill.
In general I tend to draw things in place as much as possible which reduces the need for moving them into place afterwards.

Looks like it is not moved because it is not picked, as you say; perhaps it is not in the component. Try stepping out and picking.
Check outliner (window->outliner) to see your groups and components listed and see their hierarchy; what's inside of what, etc.
Give us the model or some piece of it and we'll know for sure, maybe.
Copy all and do an explode on a copy to drill down until you can pick the vent.

I did do an explode but still didn't know the way to combine the lid and the hole vents together.I was able to choose the vent but separate from everything else.I did find a way but maybe not the best way. I highlighted the vent, copied it,then went into the lid highlighted then pasted the new vent and delighted the original first one. From there I was able to make it all a component.THX

An alternative would be to move the vent component into place, Hit Ctrl+X to cut the component, open the lid component for editing and hit Edit>Paste in place.
Since you're getting into nesting components you might think about how the lid could/should be made. I would set up something like this if you look at the Outliner
- <Lid assembly>
|- <Dome>
|- <Handle>
|- <Hook>
|- <Vent>
This will make it easy to handle the lid assembly and yet leave the parts as separate components.
